Schools

Creative Sports has been performing school assemblies since 1986.  Since our first performance, we have worked to provide our parent/school organizations and fund raising clients with the best show possible.  Our assemblies have always combined our love of BMX riding with our passion for a healthy lifestyle and a number of age appropriate messages.

Each assembly focuses on 3 main messages:

1.  The importance of living a healthy drug-free life- We understand that to accomplish our goals, we need to keep our minds clear. Our performers acknowledge the importance of living a drug-free lifestyle while working on new goals. We have all seen the damage that comes from drug abuse and how it permeates every aspect of an addict’s life.  We are not a "scared-strait" organization.  Rather, we talk to the students about the importance of focusing on things that move them in a positive way. For us, BMX is the healthy place to focus our intensity. You could say it has been our "therapy" through the various challenges of our lives. This "therapy" is different for everyone. We challenge the students to think of how they will choose to make their lives exciting and rewarding. For some, it is sports, for others it’s music, etc. There are many places for students to focus their natural energy. Our goal is to reinforce the idea of how each student can make his/her own, positive choice.

2.  The importance of education-  No matter where you go or what you do (even if it's professional BMX) your education is essential to your success.  Our education has helped us achieve our goal to become a touring stunt team. When we are looking for sponsors, we use our writing skills to prepare essays (proposals) that we send to bike companies. If the proposal is accepted, we receive free bikes.  Everything about the essay must be correct: context, spelling, punctuation and overall structure. We discuss the importance of reading comprehension.  When we get sponsored we have to sign a contract.  Before we sign the contract, we must read and understand it so that we get a fair deal.  We also discuss the importance of math. We use math every time we build a new ramp. Geometry ensures correct angles and arcs.  Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and even fractions keep the ramp safe and stable. These are all skills that we learned in school. It is imperative that the students watching the show see concrete examples of how we use education in our professional lives.

3.  The importance of helmets- Every year roughly 50,000 people are injured while riding bicycles.  It is a fact that helmets consistently reduce the incidence of brain trauma.  In every school show we perform, we talk about the importance of wearing our helmets.  We use real anecdotes of how helmets have protected our brains (there are many.) The reality is that the vast majority of preventable head injuries occur during normal bicycle riding.  However, because of the nature of our profession, we do crash more often than the average recreational rider.  If our helmets can protect us under these circumstances, they will certainly protect the students as well.  The main reason kids don't wear helmets is due to image.  We challenge the perception that "helmets aren't cool." Indeed, the students that watch our shows all agree that our riders are very cool, and their helmets do not diminish that fact in any way.

Additional themes- We will add additional themes depending on the reason for the assembly.  For example, when we are brought in to reward the students for fund raising, we speak about the importance of hard work, dedication to a cause and the obvious rewards.  If we are brought in as a motivation for testing, we discuss the importance of preparation in accomplishing any goal.  We have also tied in an anti-bullying message, pointing out the merits of encouragement and the power of our words. We will be happy to add individual themes that tie into your curriculum.
